What is ACRP certification?

The Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) is one of two major credentialing bodies for clinical research operations in North America (the other being SOCRA). ACRP runs four certifications: CCRA (CRA-focused), CCRC (CRC-focused), CP (general clinical research professional) and ACRP-PM (project management). Certification is voluntary but increasingly expected by sponsors and CROs at the senior end.

CCRA, CCRC, CP, ACRP-PM — which to pick

Pick by your role today, not by the role you want next. CCRA for monitors. CCRC for site coordinators. CP for hybrid or non-traditional paths (data, safety, start-up). ACRP-PM is layered on top once you're managing studies.

Eligibility and the exam

Each track has experience prerequisites measured in months of qualifying work. The exam is a 125-question, 3-hour proctored test covering ICH-GCP, study conduct, ethical principles and operational competencies. Pass mark is set per administration via a modified Angoff method.

How to prepare

  • Read ICH-GCP E6(R3) end-to-end at least twice.
  • Work through ACRP's official content outline with a study cohort.
  • Practice with 200+ questions across two mock exams.
  • Walk through one realistic site-monitoring scenario per week for 8 weeks.
How YANA Academy fits
Our Foundations cohort is ACRP-aligned and run by a Q-IAOCR Certified Trainer. We use real anonymized site scenarios, not generic scenarios.

Salary and career impact

Industry surveys (ACRP, ApplyEnvoy and others) consistently show a 7–15% salary uplift for certified professionals at the same experience tier, and a meaningful improvement in shortlist rates for sponsor-side roles.

Frequently asked questions

How long is ACRP certification valid?

Two years. Recertification requires 24 contact hours of relevant continuing education or re-examination.

What does the exam cost?

Roughly $475 USD for ACRP members and $625 for non-members at 2026 prices. Recertification fees are lower.

Can I sit the exam without sponsor support?

Yes — ACRP eligibility is based on your work hours, not your employer's permission. Many candidates self-fund.

Is ACRP recognized outside the US?

Increasingly yes. EU and UK sponsors recognize it, especially in CRO functions.

Do I need a degree?

Specific tracks (CCRA, CCRC) accept experience-based pathways without a four-year degree, with longer required hours.
