What the role is

Biostatisticians own the SAP, sample-size calculation, randomization design, and interim and final analyses. They sit alongside the medical lead at every key decision point and defend the analysis to regulators. MSc or PhD in statistics is the typical floor.

A typical day

  • Refine a Bayesian adaptive design for a Phase II study
  • Review TLF outputs from the statistical programmer
  • Pre-DSMB analysis run in SAS
  • SAP author meeting with medical and regulatory
  • Sensitivity analyses for an FDA question
