What is SOCRA CCRP?
The Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) offers a single Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) credential. Unlike ACRP's role-specific tracks, CCRP applies across CRA, CRC, regulatory and adjacent functions. It is widely recognized in US academic medical centers and increasingly outside North America.
SOCRA CCRP vs ACRP CCRA / CCRC
Both are reputable. SOCRA's strength is its breadth — one credential covers diverse roles. ACRP's strength is specificity. If your team standardizes on one, follow the team. If you're choosing for yourself, match the credential to where the recognition exists in your target employer pool.
Eligibility and the exam
Multiple eligibility pathways exist (degree + experience, or experience-only). The exam is 130 questions over 3.5 hours, covering ICH-GCP, US 21 CFR, the Declaration of Helsinki, and operational topics. Open-book for the regulations component, closed-book for the rest.
How to prepare
- Read ICH-GCP E6(R3), 21 CFR 11/50/56/312/812, and the Declaration of Helsinki cover-to-cover.
- Use SOCRA's official study guide and at least one third-party question bank.
- Schedule the exam 8–12 weeks out; build a 6-hour-per-week study cadence.
